Crossovers
Years of tinkering with active crossovers have taught me one thing: None of them are as sophisticated and none of them sound as good as the Borbely Audio ones. Every aspect of the circuit design is top class, to my knowledge these are the best analog active crossovers that money can buy period.

Hi Erno,
The parcel has arrived last Friday. Thank you for the special price on SB2 kit. The assembled SB2 looks great. What solder did you use? Lead-free? The lead-free, silver bearing solders I have tried never give me quite as shiny solder joint as the leaded one.

I have been a fan of Borbely Audio since early '90 when I was a student in the States. Yesterday when I opened the box to inspect the shipment especially the SB2s, I appreciated how much the quality of the kits has improved. On hind sight, while your designs were among the best, I had a few nit-pickings on your early '90 kit offers. For example I always left out the on-board LM317/337 regs and used out-board regs on your FET/Bipolar preamp modules. I didn't like the Roderstein MKII resistors although they were okay enough. Now in 2007, with all the all FET design line-up, your kits come with premium quality parts and off-board regulators. Your kits are way-ahead of most commercial audio gears in terms circuit designs and part quality. I could pay big-big price for gears from a few super high-end brands only for better looks and ergonomics of use but not the sound reproduction quality. Your kits are the best available and so completed I see no point of buying commercial gears any more. I can't praise you more highly. I wonder what you'll come up for your next personal challenge.

By the way, the super shunt regulator is really super!!

Erno and Les:

The MILL 75 monoblock amps look great and the rear connectors are a lot better than the ones I've used in the past. Everything is definitely first class, and I feel that now I'm in the big league of amplifiers.

I've been listening to the amps for about an hour and a half and all I can say is that they are fantastic. I noticed a huge difference with jazz and classical. For instance, the Madeline Eastman CD "Mad about Madeline" is extremely well recorded and the detail is amazing. Her voice sounds so natural. Also, The Gene Harris Quartet CD, "Listen Here!" is so enjoyable. Sorry, I don't know any of those buzz words used in the magazines, I just know that I love the amps.

The power output matches my speakers very well. With some of my contemporary jazz CD's such as Jeff Lorber and Lee Ritenour, the low end is excellent.

These amps are fantastic and they seem to be getting better every day. I have never heard music sound this good. I'm looking forward to many more days of happy listening.

Thank you for doing such a fantastic job—Erno for designing and Les for building the best audio in the world!

I cannot begin to tell you how thankful and satisfied I am with all of the equipment I have purchased through you and Les at LB Audio. I am an electrical engineer of 30 years and I have never heard audio at this level or seen construction so well thought out and implemented. Your designs are amazing and so are Les Bordelon's. He is a true professional and perfectionist and I could not be happier. The DAC now has 336 hours burn in and is really coming into its own. I also paid special attention to the acoustic treatment of the room (which I will send pictures of) and the AC power that feeds the electronics and I think you would be proud to have your equipment living there. Thank you again for your designs and I will never stop thanking Les for his incredible work!

Hi Erno, at last, Nirvana!! As usual Les has provided me with an
absolutely stunning piece of electronics. It is still in the early
burn in stages but the sonics are simply jaw dropping. The highs are
extended and very clear, the rest of the spectrum is also very clean
and controlled. I am beyond pleased I will keep you informed to the
burn in process as it should take a couple months for the Black Gates
and other caps to completely form.
Did Les send you any pictures of his work? He is absolutely a master
of this craft!! I really would like to thank you, Les and Hannes for a
brilliantly implemented design. I am very happy thus far!!

PS Let me know if you have any updates or changes, although I am not
sure you get it to sound any better than this!!

Hi Erno,
I just want to give you some more feedback now after the Ribbons have been playing for a week. The Ribbon has even better resolution now than initially. But the thing I'm most impressed of is the very controlled, very detailed and deep bass!!!

It is for sure the best amp I have ever heard in my house. I'm very happy with the performance!!! For the last couple of evenings I have only enjoyed the music :-)

Thanks
Kenneth

Subject: Impressions from SB2 with single regulator board
Jan. 7, 2010
Hi Erno,

The sonic impressions I got from the SB2 buffer with single regulator (for both channels) and a 120VA Avel-Lindberg toroid
xformer are the following:

* Very clear and very precise imaging. Not very impressive regarding the size of the projected images of the instruments and singers
(extremely solid though) but a very very accurate description of the program content.
* Excellent harmonic content even though this is actually very dependent from the previous electronics and the way they mechanically
interact with the shelves they rest on, and only what is actually in the music.
*Very clear and extremely precise depiction of the music content but only after at least 96 hours of music playing.
*Amazing dynamics, both micro and macro, with very truthful reproduction of the minute reverberations of the recording venue.
*Big enough but not the best (and that I think is directly related to the electronics and the different kind of supporting cones,
elastic etc. that go between them and the selves, that come before the SB2 in the audio chain) stereo dimensions.
*Very low noise.

I hope it is going to improve even more because if it does its going to be the best line stage I have ever heard and that includes
units from Halcro, Krell etc. By the way I will, eventually, get a metal (aluminum box) to put it in since for now I use a plastic box.
Hopefully this will improve things sound wise.

Thats it until now. Will let you know more as soon as I do.

Update
Jan. 9, 2010.
I always use special antivibration stand-offs from EAR that have excellent capabilities (use them on the buffer and on the PS/reg).
I also use special antivibration devises under the equipment chassis (metal or plastic).
The buffer since yesterday afternoon is sounding simply magnificent with lots and lots of detail, amazing harmonic description
and some of the best tonal balance I have ever heard.
By the way I always cover my electronic circuits with the C37 varnish (it makes everything so much more human).
Here is a photo of my system (two systems actually).

Thanasis Moraitis

Hi Erno,

"And then there was MUSIC!"
2 of 3 SB's are playing. My friend was flabbergasted by the result.
I myself am also very satisfied, as expected because I already heard the SB from an other friend who also bought one from you.
In my set up it resulted in better spatial representation, more 'musical' / less 'electronic' sound, better control and detail.
Great stuff!

Have a nice weekend!
Luc
